Occupational Therapists
Occupational Therapists help children in the following ways:
Physical developmental domain- Your child’s ability to master movement and balance as well as be able to interact with the world around them in various ways
Areas addressed may include:
· advancing hand-eye coordination
· learning to precisely control muscles in the fingers and hands
· building upper body & core strength
· establishing appropriate grasping skills
· sensing balance and motion
· developing body awareness
· sensory system development-touch, taste, hearing, vision and smell
Adaptive developmental domain- Your child’s ability to adapt to various demands of normal daily living, including areas such as dressing, eating, toileting and washing
Areas addressed may include:
· encouraging independent self feeding-holding bottle, finger feeding, utensil use
· meal time behaviors
· promoting management of daily hygiene activities such as washing, brushing teeth
· dressing and undressing, putting on socks & shoes
· potty training
· problems with sleep
· safety concerns
· participating in age appropriate daily routines
